Let’s Get Dirty

Time to get your plants set up with the WicR reservoir for easy watering!

  1. Wick Installation: First, open up your WicR reservoir and remove the wicks. Flip the lid over. You'll see four holes – thread one end of each wick through a hole from the underside, crossing the center guide. Pull it through until it snugs into one of those little holding grooves. This keeps them in place and at the bottom of the reservoir! Make sure your wicks pull through to the same length on top. Snap the lid back on the reservoir.
  2. Base Placement: Now, put the WicR at the very bottom of your plant pot. (If your WicR reservoir is slightly larger than the base of your pot, you can use fine gravel to raise the insert.) Let the wicks hang over the sides of the pot for now. For deeper pots you can also use tape to temporarily hold the wicks in place.
  3. Building the Foundation: While holding the wicks in place, start filling your pot with soil. You want to cover the WicR completely, bringing the soil level up to where the bottom of your plant's root ball will eventually sit.
  4. Plant Introduction: Carefully place your plant into the pot. As you do, gently guide the wicks so they are nestled around the root ball of your plant. This ensures good contact for consistent watering.

In the case of larger containers and plants where wicks remain beneath the soil line, toothpicks may be used to anchor the wicks to the root ball.

  5. Final Soil Layer: Continue adding soil around your plant until you reach the ideal fill level for your container.
  6. Wick Management: Take the top ends of the wicks and tuck them into the surface of the soil, then cover them with a little more soil. If they seem too long, feel free to trim them.
  7. That's It! Give your plant a good initial watering as you normally would. The WicR will now work its magic, providing consistent moisture and making your plant care a breeze!
